My Blog: Old Design

My old blog design, shown above, is no more and I blame it all on Smashing Magazine and their 50 Beautiful Blog Designs article. After reading this article and ooh’ing and aah’ing at all of these amazing blog designs, I decided it was time for a change. A change to something less boring and hopefully more interesting. I know this new design comes nowhere near those other designs, but you have to start somewhere. Plus, It was time for me inflect some life into this already stale blog. Read the rest of this entry »

I am glad I only visit Westlake for work…

…and wasn’t lucky enough to go there for high school as well:

The easy way out would have been to tell the graduates of Westlake High School that the misspelling on their diplomas was a final test.

A test. Yeah, that’s it.

Instead, Principal Timothy Freeman fell on his red pen, shouldering responsibility for the diplomas issued to 330 Westlake graduates at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland on Saturday that read board of “educaiton,” not “education.” Read the rest of this entry »

Wiz’s Haywood says LeBron should stop complaining about rough play

CLEVELAND — Overrated hasn’t worked. Now one of the Washington Wizards is calling LeBron James another name: Crybaby.

“I mean, come on man, this is the playoffs,” [Brendan] Haywood said following Monday’s practice. “He wears 23, he wants to be Michael Jordan, I can respect that, he’s a great player. You saw what Mike went through. Mike got fouled way worse than this. No one is trying to hurt him, everybody is trying to play basketball, trying to play tough. Play basketball and leave it alone.”

My Mileage

Posted by shane On April - 24 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Each weekday I drive 60 miles to and from work. I am doing my part to speed up global warming! However, that isn’t the point. The point is, I am quickly racking up the miles on my leased Nissan Altima. Who knows how many miles I am allotted a month or even a year?! I don’t. I just know that right at this moment I have 17,177 miles. I have put 17,177 miles on my car since mid-May, 2007.

Every 3,000 miles you are supposed to get an oil change and although I may not follow that rule all the time, I know it. A little less often you should have your car inspected. Nissan is very good with reminding me when I need maintenance by sending me notices that seem to arrive every week. Sometimes I wonder how they keep track! Read the rest of this entry »

I believe I have accomplished a lot in my short time on planet Earth:

  • I went to college.
  • I graduated college with a Bachelor’s of Science.
  • I had 5 successful co-op quarters with 3 different companies.
  • I have 2 jobs, one dealing with my major.

However, after watching the video below, all of that makes me look like I have just been a couch potato my whole life. Thanks Courtney Oliver, here is to you making me and most of the rest of the world look like idiots!

Simon Trickster Makes Pretty Colors

Colors Aglow, originally uploaded by Imagine24.

My nephew Nate was playing with the new improved Simon, now known as Simon Trickster (has 4 modes: classic, rewind, bounce and surprise), when I realized that if I turned off the lights in the room, used a long exposure and moved Simon around real fast, the Simon would make an awesome photo.

This is the product of that experiment. I think it worked out pretty well…what do you think?

Simply Amazing.

Explanation: Sometimes the sky itself is the best show in town. On January 26, people from Perth, Australia gathered on a local beach to watch a sky light up with delights near and far. Nearby, fireworks exploded as part of Australia Day celebrations. On the far right, lightning from a thunderstorm flashed in the distance. Near the image center, though, seen through clouds, was the most unusual sight of all: Comet McNaught. The photogenic comet was so bright that it even remained visible though the din of Earthly flashes. Comet McNaught continues to move out from the Sun and dim, but should remain visible in southern skies with binoculars through the end of this month. The above image is actually a three photograph panorama digitally processed to reduce red reflections from the exploding firework.

Remember LeBron James?

Posted by shane On December - 22 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

Let me tell you a story. Every Saturday, I work at the Cafe at Nordstrom. Every Saturday the day goes by without a story to tell. Today, was not the case.

I remember little, as I was told that I turned into a 10-year old with his mouth wide open, but I will try and relay as much as I do remember. I was behind the counter, as I normally am, when I saw a large crowd entering the cafe. Then before I knew it, I heard someone say, “Hey LeBron.” I think this is when my mouth hit the floor…of the First Level. (FYI, we are on the Third Level.) The LeBron James had just entered the Cafe that I work at!

I looked up to him, yes, everyone must look up to him, he is ginormous. He is younger than me, and yet, he seems to be twice the size of me! Crazy! At this point, everyone from the back of the house, front of the house and customers, were all around, including his entourage. This man commanded the room just by walking in it, how cool is that?

He ordered a Nantucket Nectar bottled juice and a muffin, to go. It was I believe a Half-And-Half, and was definitely a blueberry muffin. Confusion arose over where we were ringing him out and bagging up his stuff. I might have bagged up his stuff, I don’t remember, but I do remember beginning to ring him up. I was handed $10 from my assistant manager, who received it from LeBron, when our head manager told LeBron it was on the house. He took his muffin, beverage and entourage and left the cafe, allowing everyone to exhale.

My head manager then said to me, and the assistant manager, “You were going to charge, LeBron?” Well yes, we were, because he makes more than all of us combined, but it was his call, and so it was on the house. After that, everyone conversed about the man who walked in our Cafe only for a few minutes, but made an everlasting impression on all of us.

What a day at the Cafe at Nordstrom in Beachwood, OH. It is one that I will never forget, even if my mouth has only begun to come off the floor. Thanks LeBron!
