The World of Grilled Cheese: How to Monetize It?

When I decided to create a new grilled cheese sandwich each and every Sunday, I stumbled upon something. I found a project that combined all of my loves (photography, cooking, web/design) into one grandiose idea. I had been thinking of how to do that for years and here, out of nowhere, it just popped into my head when I was off in some other world. Amazing.

There is just one problem. Currently, it is just a hobby. There is nothing wrong with that as hobbies are great. I am just wondering how I am able to turn this interest into something that could make me money while still retaining all the fun? Read the rest of this entry »

The History of the Grilled Cheese Sandwich

The History of Grilled Cheese

Since the history of the actual grilled cheese sandwich is limited, let me start with the history of just the sandwich. As is the case with most ancient foods, pinpointing a date or time when something is created is difficult. In terms of the sandwich, there are references to bread being eaten with other food in the Neolithic when the Jewish sage Hillel the Elder “is said to have wrapped meat from the Paschal lamb and bitter herbs in a matzo (or flat, unleavened bread) during Passover.” (Wikipedia)

The first true reference to the word sandwich came on November 24, 1762 when Edward Gibbons, an author, scholar, and historian, wrote the following in his journal: Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Dinners: March 13, 2009

A few weeks after I began the Sunday Dinner Grilled Cheese meal, my mom my sous chef, suggested that we do one week with salmon. The minute she mentioned that I thought, “Yuck!” I really did not think it sounded very good. A salmon grilled cheese sandwich? No thank you. She kept suggesting it and I kept saying no. My dad even said he would try it and I still said no. That all changed one week ago today. Read the rest of this entry »

AOL: Welcome to 1995

We all remember AOL, or should I say America Online? We all remember the AOL discs. All of the AOL discs. We all remember spending minutes, many minutes, trying to sign on just so we could check our email from our best chat room buddy. And finally, we all remember when we cut the cord and switched to high-speed Internet. That was a glorious day. Since then, I am not sure how much good AOL has done for me. Sure, I have visited their site, read some stories, but nothing hit me as much as the article that I read yesterday: Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Dinners: March 8, 2009

Even with a week off, trying to think of a sandwich idea for tonight was somewhat difficult. I hope that in the future the ideas come a little easier. I will be off next week it is my dad’s birthday and we will be going out to dinner. I do have an idea for then (pizza possibly?), which hopefully will be as good as tonight’s sandwich. I never thought “BBQ sauce” on a grilled cheese would be a good thing… Read the rest of this entry »

SELF Magazine and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

SELF: Grilled Cheese Sandwich

While searching through Google’s BlogSearch for some sort of grilled cheese “news” to post, I stumbled upon a SELF Magazine article entitled Grilled Cheese, Please. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from the story simply because most grilled cheese articles are very standard. However, this one was pretty good. Read the rest of this entry »
