Yes, I understand Miley Cyrus is 15. Yes, I understand that she is a role model. Yes, I understand she appears on the Disney Channel. Yes, I understand that she is nude except for a blanket. However, with all that said, I still must ask the question, “Is this news?” Should this be featured on the homepages of our main news web sites: CNN.com, ABCNews.com, & MSNBC.com?

When digging down to the actual stories, I realize that all 3 sites have the articles in their “Entertainment” sections. Fine, but I still don’t understand the need for them to be featured on the homepages of these sites or even really for this to be a story.

The hooplah surround this one image speaks to the core of if people believe this is art or if it has crossed the line into child pornography/pedophalia, including Miley Cyrus herself. After all, we must all remember that this girl is a role-model for hundreds of thousands of teen girls across the country! (If you don’t sense the sarcasm there, I apologize.)

As you, the reader, can probably tell, I don’t see the big deal. Miley Cyrus tried to do something artistic with her fame and body, shouldn’t she be allowed? Annie Leibovitz isn’t exactly some back alley photographer who told her to strip down to almost nude and then decided, “Oh gee, let me go get my camera.” This isn’t Britney or Paris getting out of the car exposing parts that at this point, no one wants to see. This was done with some sort of taste, some sort of morals, some sort of decency.

Miley Cyrus

Sure, I have only read and seen what has been released by the press, Vanity Fair, and Miley Cyrus, including another image, shown above. However, I guess I am not sure why Cyrus is so embarrassed. She has stated that she was trying to do something artistic, and well, she has succeeded as evidenced by all the coverage and discussion about one, or maybe two photos of a young woman.
