Interesting number, huh? It could represent so much: average points per basketball game, someone’s age, how much money you have in the bank, percentage of something, or a grade on a test.
However, that is not what it symbolizes at all. It represents, in days, how long I have talked on only my third cell phone: 824 hours or a little over 34 days. That may seem like a huge number, and it actually is, but I have had this phone for over three years, almost three and a half. So out of 1,095+ days, I spent 34 of those on the phone, talking to someone, somewhere.
There was the good times and the bad times, the quick conversations and the marathon talk sessions. Looking back through the history of my phone is essentially looking back through my life. My phone went wherever I went, no matter what. The calls that this phone made and didn’t make, is a window into the past three years of my life. I have called friends, family, girlfriends and many other random people. I have been smiling, crying, laughing and whining. I called to say hello, or someone called me to ask me a question. So many conversations took place on that phone, it is simply mind blowing to think about.
In reality, when people live to be 80, 90 or even 100, three years is not that much time. However, when you are only 24 and have just begun growing up, three years is an eternity.
These days, everyone has a cell phone, whether you are 9 or 90. If we all could look back on the past three years, according to our cell phones and only our cell phones, I think we all would be amazed at what occurred with that one piece of technology. That one piece of technology we have all grown accustomed to owning and using, day in and day out.
Even though my personal cell phone is not in the best condition, the screen is cracked, the paint is wearing off and the only place you can see Nokia is on the back, this little guy has so many more memories to deliver. He isn’t going anywhere.
Note: At one point, while in college, I used my cell phone as my only phone, so when scrutinizing these numbers, that must be taken into account. If I had a landline phone as well, who knows how different the number might be.
