Silly, Quick Story Time And Photo Time

Posted by shane On May - 30 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

Let me bore you for two minutes, and then you will be able to view today’s A Photo A Day. On my way home from work this evening, as usual, there was traffic. Either to the right or left of me was a Nissan Xterra, and we both were trying to get around cars who were going slow. Being stereotypical, I figured that it was a guy in the Xterra and never really thought anymore of it.

However, we were passing each other down the road a bit and I was able to see who exactly was driving the car and let me tell you, it was definitely not a male. It was a young, attractive, female, who happened to be talking on the phone. After a second or two, we both saw each other, smiled, and that was that. I continued driving, as I should, and so did she.

We passed each other again, and nothing happened. Time passed, and then, I realized I was in the wrong lane, and started to try and make it home the correct way. However, in this quest to get in the correct lane, I went slower than usual, hoping that mystery girl would catch up to me again, if only for me to get one last glance. It worked. She passed me one more time, and for the second time, we made eye contact and smiled as we both went different ways to our destination.

Sure, this is extremely corny, and sappy, but that moment, that whole exchange, made me smile, and made me happy for the next little while. I will never see this girl again, unless for some really odd test of fate, but this cute, attractive girl, gave me some much needed entertainment for the ride home…and even a much needed confident boost. Thank you Mystery Girl!

Now onto today’s photo…which will receive no story except to say that my mom and I went to play tennis, as we normally do on a Wednesday night, and afterwards went searching the local Community Park for a photo. Somehow I won said game, even if I did play poorly.

…but they have screwed me in uploading today’s photo. I had chosen a photo early this evening, towards the beginning of the game. I did not upload it yet because I wanted to look back through the photos and make sure I didn’t miss anything. The game got good, so I stopped looking at the photos and focused on the game.

When I checked after the game, I decided my original assumption was correct and I was going with the first photo I liked. Too late. In the time that the Cavs won the game, Flickr went off-line and is currently in the middle of “having a massage.” The update, er, I mean massage, will not be done until 1 am EST, and well, I am not waiting that long simply to upload my photo. Therefore, I cannot meet my midnight deadline and you will not see today’s photo until tomorrow.

Hopefully this wonderful image will hold you over until I am able to update this post with more text and 1 great image…

GO CAVS!

Well, I was going to update with a whole long entry and also the photo, but I have decided just to deliver the photo…enjoy, Americana:

You thought you escaped me…

Back when I went to see Shrek 3, I was leaving the theater, walking to the car with my mom, when I saw an awesome car, a Maserati. I had to look, then get my camera, then start snapping photos. There was one problem though, it was pitch black out and not very good lighting at all. Therefore, all photos I took did not come out very well, and for that day’s photo, I went with the standby of my doggie.

Well, the Maserati only avoided me for so long. Today, after leaving Beachwood Place with my folks, sitting in the parking lot was a Maserati, in all its glory. Of course I had my camera, and so as I did at the movie theater, I snapped away. Lucky for me, it was mid-afternoon, so there was plenty of sunlight, almost too much! I did stop a couple times, as I thought one couple was going to get into the car, and I was afraid the security guy would tell me to stop. Luckily though, the owners of the car didn’t magically appear outside to yell at me for taking pictures of their 6 figure car.

Which leads me to today’s photo. What do you think of when you hear the name, Nordstrom? Expensive? Money? Classy? Exactly. What do you think of when you hear Maserati? Well, some might be confused about the name, but the others who know the name, might be thinking expensive? Money? Classy? Again, exactly. Put them together, in one photo, and you have one very classy image.

When I don’t have an idea…

Posted by shane On May - 28 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

…I will just need to go to Aurora Farms. The last time I was there, I snapped this perfect photo:

Whimsical

Today, when I visited, I noticed the above flower had shriveled up and died. However, in another location, right near this flower, were new and unique flowers. Being the photographer that I am, I took out my camera and snapped away.

Aurora Farms is now 2-for-2, as one of those photos were chosen as today’s A Photo A Day. I like the photo because it is off-center, just like me, but also because the photo almost fades into the background. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do. Until tomorrow…

Say hi!

Posted by shane On May - 26 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

Tonight was a night of resting and relaxation. Therefore, I had to really search for a subject for today’s A Photo A Day. I had thought I might take a photo outside of Best Buy, where I went after work, but 1/2 way home is when I realized I forgot to. Oh well.

Instead, today’s photo comes from an old time movie, that has tons of sequels: The Land Before Time. Hopefully, you all know I am a kid at heart, but if you didn’t, you do now. I have a Little Foot stuffed animal that my mom bought me when the movie first came out. Mind you, this is one of a handful of items my mom has bought me that has not been imitation. That means, this little one is not going anywhere! When I have a son, he will be receiving Little Foot as a present at some point…or maybe I might just hang onto him forever!

Anyways, I am writing about the photo, not my future life plans. I came up to my room to change out of my work clothes, and I had brought my camera with me. I was trying to think of a photo idea. I tossed the idea of going into the bathroom, but passed. Then, I saw Little Foot standing on my bed, and I thought, “Why not?” I snapped a few photos, trying to make sure they weren’t blurry and away we were. As I was taking the photos, I was thinking about Toy Store and wondering if Little Foot really knew I was taking his picture. You might say no, but how do you know for sure?

I believe in the photo I chose, it looks like he is staring directly at the viewer, saying hi; that is the main reason I chose this one. So do me one favor, don’t be rude, and say hi back!

Little Foot says hi!

Until tomorrow…

Not much to say tonight, other than the fact that art, and most definitely Monet, rules. Oh and enjoy today’s A Photo A Day, taken outside the Cleveland Museum of Art.

All growed up?

Posted by shane On May - 25 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

No, no, I am not talking about the Rugrats show, I am talking about the geese/goslings at my office. It takes humans years to grow to our final size. Some are short, some are tall, but no matter what, it takes more than a few weeks for us to grow up. On the other hand, geese take only a few weeks to grow from a baby to a young adult.

I know that because over the past few weeks I have seen little goslings grow and grow and grow. Yesterday I saw them and couldn’t believe how big they had gotten in just 2 weeks. It shocked me, it shocked the landlord, it has shocked everyone. Unfortunately, yesterday I did not snap a photo worthy of being A Photo A Day, and therefore focused on the sport of the day, tennis.

Today, however, I searched out the little ones, found them, and snapped a total of 93 photos. You can view today’s right here, highlighting the grown-up goslings in 3 different stages: awake, half asleep and totally asleep. The background could be a better setting, but I just couldn’t pass up all three of them and their poses.

No racquetball tonight.

Posted by shane On May - 23 - 20071 COMMENT

As most of you know, racquetball is played inside, and tennis is not. Therefore, when it is sunny outside, it seems kinda silly to play a game inside, when there is a possibility of playing a similar game outside.

Every Wednesday night, my mom and I, play racquetball. However, recently, we haven’t been silly and have chosen the outside game, tennis. The last time we played, we both were rusty, and played with balls that had been deflated for years. It was a rough go, but it was definitely fun. Tonight, we returned to the courts with brand new balls with a great bounce. We both still were rusty, but better than the previous time. In no time, we both will be amazing tennis players! Ok, so maybe not amazing, but definitely good.

As usual, I brought my camera tonight, and snapped photos from the court to the baseball field to the sky. You can see below, which one I have chosen…

Old & New

The day has come when I had to turn over Mr. 2004 Nissan Sentra. I had to say goodbye to my friend of 3+ years. Before I did that, as expected, I took a few “goodbye photos.”

You will be missed Mr. 2004 Nissan Sentra, but as I said yesterday, it is time to move on and mature. Say hello to Mr. 2007 Nissan “Blue” Altima…

This is the button that makes the car go…how cool is that?

So there you have it, the new and old. The new car has gadgets that I really like, rides extremely smooth and is larger…I couldn’t be more happy! Oh and did I mention that is blue? Yeah, it is blue…what, I sure hope you weren’t expecting another color!

Today’s photo highlights the left rear of my new car. You can see the word Altima, along with 4 vibrant colors and highlights. I almost went with a close-up of the radio, but it was black and reminded me of yesterday’s photo in multiple respects. Today’s is different, exactly what I am trying to achieve with A Photo A Day.

Time to say goodbye.

Posted by shane On May - 21 - 20071 COMMENT

There is a time in every person’s life when they must say goodbye, they must let go. For me, this time is now. Of course, I am talking about turning in my old 2004 Nissan Sentra. The lease has expired, and therefore I must say goodbye. This car, my 3rd if you can believe it, has been with me the longest, so although I am every excited for my new Nissan Altima, I am still sad. This car has been with me through college, co-oping, and many other events. Many trips from Cleveland < > Cincinnati < > Lexington. It was and still is a great car, hence the reason I am sticking with Nissan.

I know it is only a car, but when it is a part of your life for 3+ years, it becomes a part of you. The fact that this was also my first true car, it is a big deal. I am getting teary eyed writing this. But alas, as I am growing up, and maturing, so must my car. I am saying goodbye to small and compact, and hello to midsize and well, midsize.

Tomorrow’s photo will feature the new, but tonight we must say goodbye to the classic. Mr. 2004 Nissan Sentra, I am going to miss you. You have to understand, I must move on and grow up, and so, I say goodbye!

Wood?

Posted by shane On May - 20 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

Today was a lazy day. I was simply resting, relaxing and designing. I didn’t have big plans or anything except to maybe go with my folks to a local jubilee. Well, after spending ~45 min and ~$45 at the grocery store on my mom’s dime, we missed the jubilee, my main hope for today’s photo.

On the way home, my mom had the idea of stopping at the local gazebo. It has been condemned, as is evidenced by the sign that says stand at least 25 feet away. I took a few pictures there, and a couple turned out alright, but none turned out as good as today’s photo.

On the way home from all the errands, my mom told me turn up the street right after ours, because she believed there might be something that I could take a photo of. We were going around the bend, where the street we were on connects to ours and we still hadn’t seen anything yet. However, my mom became very lucky, as right before we were on our street, there was a pile of logs on the curb, sitting outside someone’s house. We pulled over, I snapped a few shots, and that is how I found today’s photo.

Logs!

Until tomorrow…when I get my new car!

When there is a slow day…

Posted by shane On May - 20 - 20071 COMMENT

…I begin looking around the house for different objects to photograph. Tonight’s lucky subject was the family pet, Sammi. She was sleeping on my parent’s bed and couldn’t care less that I was taking her photo, she just went on sleeping. I guess that made it easier for me to photograph, but in some respects, not as exciting. Enjoy this close-up of her paws as they rest from a not-so hard day’s work.

And oh yeah, Sammi almost lost out to a Maserati that I saw at the movie theatre after seeing Shrek 3. Too bad it was dark out, or I might have swapped Sammi for a nice looking car!

Can you find me?

Posted by shane On May - 18 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

Today was bound to be a slow day, except I noticed a photo possibility this morning, and actually remembered it this afternoon. I don’t want to give away too much, regarding the actual setting of the photo, just know that you should be looking for me. Hey, I have to take a picture of myself here and there!

Well, that is all for today. Enjoy the photo…until tomorrow…

I tackled it.

Posted by shane On May - 18 - 2007ADD COMMENTS

Yesterday I attempted to take pictures of the Valley View Bridge, but the weather had other plans for me. Also, I attempted to take a side view of the bridge, and well, the pictures looked pretty poor. It was partly the weather’s fault, but it was definitely partly my fault.

Today, I returned, with better weather and a better plan. Well, I had a plan, but in actuality, I simply got lucky. I had planned to simply find a place to pull over and take pictures from there. One choice was the movie theatre, but it was too far, and I would have not been any better off than yesterday. The luck comes into play because the Cleveland MetroParks has a tow path off the same street, and lucky enough, there is a mini-parking lot for the tow-path, right below the Valley View Bridge. The view was awesome, the weather was awesome, and the photos were awesome. I owe the MetroParks a great thank you!

Unfortunately, all the photos were too awesome and I spent over two hours trying to narrow it down from 89 photos to just one. Luckily, I had my partner in crime, my mother, to chime in every two seconds with her opinion. It was an entertaining bonding experience.

The main debate was whether I truly wanted the viewer to realize that I was taking a photo of a bridge, or if I was going for a more ambiguous photo. You can see which side won the debate in today’s photo…Until tomorrow…
